Days 1-3 TRAVEL TO GHANA AND ACCRA CITY TOURS
We will visit Independence Square (where Ghanaians celebrate the nation’s Independence Day each year); and stand under Black Star Square which is a monument to the Black Star of Ghana, which Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first Prime Minister adopted in tribute to Marcus Garvey.
Tour members will visit the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, which is the final resting place of the first President of Ghana and one of Africa’s most renowned Statesmen and Pan-Africanists; and the W.E.B. DuBois Memorial Center for Pan-African Culture, which is a research library and gallery containing the invaluable manuscripts of W.E.B. DuBois.
We will drive through the commercial districts of Accra and see the amazing development and growth of Accra. Stop at points of interest as we crisscross through Accra, one of the most vibrant and exciting cities in Africa.
While in Accra, we will take a day trip to Asenema Waterfalls in the Eastern Region. Asenema Waterfalls is one of the hidden gems in the rainforest of the Akuapem Hills.
With its powerful and enchanting display of cascading water, the Asenema Waterfall is a natural wonder that is sure to leave you spellbound.
Days 4-6 TOUR THE CENTRAL REGION
Experience the vibrant and enchanting Fetu Festival in Ghana. It’s a celebration of deep spiritual, cultural, and social significance. Immerse yourself in the pouring of libations, colorful attire, energetic drumming and dancing, and stunning kente cloths. This festival is a powerful expression of unity and pride, preserving rich cultural traditions.
We will tour Elmina and Cape Coast Slave Dungeons, infamous as the places where the largest number of enslaved Africans were housed before shipment to the Americas.
After the impactful tours of the slave dungeons, we will return to the hotel and change the mood with an evening of entertainment and fun with a Welcome (Akwaaba) Dinner with Cultural Dance and Drumming Performances.
Days 7-8 TOUR KUMASI AND IT’S SURROUNDING TOWNS
On the way to Kumasi, we will stop at Assin Manso to participate in a Ceremony of Remembrance at “Slave River” where our ancestors were forced to bath after their long march to the coast of Ghana, which could have taken as long as six months.
In Kumasi, Tour Members will have the opportunity to explore the capital city of the ancient Asante Kingdom and its surrounding towns and villages and visit Manhyia Palace, the traditional home of the Asantehene “the king of kings,” the king of all the Asante.
While at Manhyia Palace, we will explore the Museum, which is filled with countless relics and artifacts that highlight the richness of the history and culture of the Asante people.
We will stop for photos at the Okomfo Anokye Monument, dedicated to the traditional priest who “conjured” from the skies the famous Golden Stool that unified the Asante people.
You will have time to browse through the National Center for Culture, see Artisans at work and browse through the shops filled with brass items, batik cloth, wood pieces, artwork, and pottery.
Visit the woodcarving village of Ahwiaa where you will see craftsmen carving wood masterpieces; Ntonso, famous for It’s kente and adinkra cloth; and Adanwomase, one of the most popular kente weaving villages.
Tour members will have the opportunity to participate in a Traditional Naming Ceremony, where each tour member will be given a traditional Asante name based on his/her day of birth and welcomed into his/her “adopted” family with dance and celebrations.
Days 9-12 BACK TO ACCRA FOR LEISURE TIME BEFORE HEADING HOME
Rest, relax, and enjoy the hotel amenities; including one of Ghana’s most beautiful beaches. Or have a spa day, or do nothing at all!
